History of McLean McHenry Mutual Insurance Company

The McLean McHenry Mutual Insurance Company consists of three County Mutual Insurance Companies. McLean County Farmers Mutual Insurance Company was incorporated in December 1904 and continued operation until it merged with Viking Farmers Mutual Insurance in 1990. Viking Mutual Insurance Company was incorporated in 1905, and continued under this name until it merged with McLean County Farmers Mutual Insurance Company in 1990; both Mutual’s operated under the name of McLean County Farmers Mutual Insurance Company until the company merged with Farmers Mutual Insurance of McHenry County in 1998. Farmers Mutual Insurance Company of McHenry County was incorporated in 1907 and continued under this name until it merged with McLean County Farmers Mutual Insurance Company in 1998. At this time the company name was changed to the present name McLean McHenry Mutual Insurance Company.

We are a mutual company. Every policyholder is a member of the company and as such is entitled to a vote at the annual meeting held on the second Monday of June, at 7:30 p.m. Properties insurable and types of insurance available are: fire and broad form extended coverage on farm property, non-farm residential property, mobile homes, churches, township halls, and seasonal dwellings. Scheduled farm personal property insurance, equipment breakdown, service line coverage, farm liability, and comprehensive personal liability insurance are also available.

The company is directed by the company president, vice-president, and secretary-treasurer and is governed by a board of 5 to 7 members. The directors are elected at the annual meeting and serve a three-year term. The secretary-treasurer is in charge of underwriting, claims settlement, policy interpretation, business development, accounting, and data processing.
